Opportunities for volunteering on Hauturu are very limited.
Information on volunteering opportunities with DoC is available here. Hauturu can only be visited with a permit. Permits are issued for research, education, cultural or management purposes.
The Hauturu Supporters Trust aims to organise several weekend trips per year to give a small group of people an opportunity to experience Hauturu. These depart from Sandspit on a Saturday morning following a cultural induction run by Ngāti Manuhiri; they return late the next day. There is an expectation that attendees will make themselves available to help out the rangers with voluntary work while they are there.
The charge for participating in a working weekend is often changing; this is used to defray costs such as transport, biosecurity, cultural induction and accommodation. Please use the contact form below to make an expression of interest. Priority will be given to supporters (those who have contributed to the Trust financially or in other ways), along with people who can help us advance our education and advocacy goals.
